Thai customs stopped drug smuggling hidden inside children’s toys, with nearly 1,000 pink tablets seized in an international parcel bound for a private recipient.
Parcel opened during routine checks
During a routine inspection of international shipments, Thai officers came across a suspicious package. Once they opened it, they found colorful stuffed toys and plastic figurines inside.
The surprise was what those toys contained. Inspectors say the package was used to conceal dangerous substances in an attempt to pass through customs unnoticed.
Lab tests identified 2C-B
A detailed search led officers to seize almost 1,000 pink tablets. Laboratory tests later showed that the tablets were 2C-B, a powerful synthetic drug with psychedelic effects.
In Thailand, 2C-B is classified in the strictest first category. That classification places it among the country’s most tightly controlled narcotics.
Severe penalties under Thai law
Thai anti-narcotics law is among the strictest in the world. Possession, and especially importation, of first-category substances can bring long prison terms and, in extreme cases, even the death penalty.
Because of that, police immediately launched an investigation to identify both the sender and the intended recipient of the shipment.
More checks are expected
Authorities say they will carry out even more detailed inspections of parcels entering the country. The case is a reminder that drug smuggling by mail or courier can trigger a fast and serious response in Thailand.
