The Thai Treasury Department has launched its first commemorative coin series honoring Queen Suthida's 48th birthday, featuring a limited gold edition and widely available copper-nickel versions.

A new numismatic tribute

The Thai Treasury Department has officially released a series of commemorative coins to mark the fourth-cycle birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas announced that the collection serves as a historical record of the Queen’s royal duties and contributions to public welfare. The release coincides with the 48th anniversary of her birth on June 3.

Three distinct denominations

The collection comprises three types of coins, each with specific specifications and production limits. The most exclusive is a proof gold coin containing 99% gold. It has a face value of 50,000 baht but is sold for 99,999 baht, with a strict production limit of just 1,000 pieces. A second proof silver coin, containing 92.5% silver, is priced at 3,000 baht with a mintage of 5,000. The third is a standard cupronickel coin with a face value of 20 baht, available for exchange at its face value, with a production cap of 250,000 units.

Design and availability

The coins feature a portrait of the Queen in traditional royal attire on the obverse. The reverse depicts the King and Queen engaged in various development projects, including the Bueng Si Fai commemorative project and the Prem Prachawanarak Park. The Treasury Department confirmed that sales and exchanges began on November 6, 2026. Residents can obtain the coins through Treasury offices in Bangkok and all 76 provinces, as well as via the department’s online service.
