TDAC rules now require travellers to complete Thailand’s digital arrival card before they reach the airport, with airline staff checking the QR code at departure.
TDAC rules have changed again, and the practical message for anyone going to Thailand is simple: do not wait until you land. From March 2026, the relaxed practice of filling in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card after arrival is no longer allowed, and airlines must check the QR code before boarding.
What has changed in March 2026
Earlier, some passengers could still complete the digital arrival form after landing at airports such as Suvarnabhumi or Phuket. That tolerance has now been removed. The latest instructions from the Ministry of Interior make clear that the system must be completed in advance, before the flight or sea crossing begins.
For travellers, that means the old last-minute approach is over. If the TDAC QR code is not active at check-in, boarding can be refused.
When you can submit the form
The TDAC rules include a strict 72-hour window. The form cannot be submitted earlier than three days before scheduled arrival in Thailand.
For example, if a flight lands in Bangkok on 28 March, the earliest submission date is 25 March. Trying to file it a week earlier will trigger an error in the system.
The safest approach is to complete the form around 48 hours before travel. That leaves time to download the QR code and correct mistakes if necessary.
Why airlines now matter most
The main checkpoint has moved to the departure airport. Airline staff at check-in are now responsible for verifying the QR code before passengers board. In practice, the airline becomes the first gatekeeper of the entry process.
Border officials also say the system is designed to support full digital processing before a traveller reaches Thailand. It is intended to reduce queues at immigration and to cross-check security databases earlier.
Even the lack of internet is no longer treated as a valid excuse at land or sea crossings. The process is expected to be fully digital before a plane or ship reaches Thailand.
What travellers should do before flying
The official and only free TDAC form is available on the government website. Once submitted, the form locks key details, including the traveller’s name and passport number, so accuracy matters.
- Save the QR code on your phone.
- Take a screenshot or print a paper copy.
- Check every letter of your passport details before sending the form.
- Have the QR code ready before reaching the check-in desk.
Following the TDAC rules should make arrival faster, but only if the form is completed on time and the details are correct.
