At the Thai food festival in Fukuoka, Thailand used cuisine, wellness and culture to present itself as a premium destination for Japanese travellers.

A two-day showcase in Tenjin Chuo Park

On 30-31 May 2026, Tenjin Chuo Park in Fukuoka, Japan, became a colourful hub of Thai culture and food. The event, titled “Amazing Thailand Fest 2026 @Fukuoka”, drew crowds and placed Thailand in the spotlight as a destination where taste is linked with wellbeing, tradition and modernity.

Organisers led by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or TAT, framed the Thai food festival as more than a celebration. It was designed to inspire Japanese visitors to discover the Kingdom of Smiles through authentic flavours, cultural experiences and travel ideas rooted in everyday life.

Food as a travel invitation

TAT vice governor Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai said Thai food is one of Thailand’s most distinctive cultural languages. She noted that each dish carries flavour, a story of local wisdom and a sense of place.

That message sat at the centre of the Thai food festival. Rather than presenting cuisine as an isolated attraction, the event used food to open a broader conversation about travel to Thailand itself. The aim was to make visitors curious not only about dishes, but also about the regions, people and traditions behind them.

Stalls, workshops and travel offers

The festival featured 33 stalls covering a wide range of Thai experiences. Visitors found food, tourism products, contemporary crafts and design all in one place.

  • Thai Airways International and AirAsia offered special promotions to support travel planning.
  • Visitors joined cooking workshops focused on luk chup sweets and miniature garland making.
  • Thai massage demonstrations added a wellness element to the event.
  • An AI photo booth offered virtual trips around Thailand.

The format showed how the Thai food festival combined practical travel inspiration with hands-on cultural participation. It also gave attendees a chance to compare different sides of Thailand in a single venue.

Appealing to younger audiences

The event also targeted younger visitors who value new experiences and contemporary culture. Thai dance performances and Muay Thai demonstrations were joined by appearances from popular Thai figures, including “Noinah” and musicians Koh Mr. Saxman and Mcka.

That mix of traditional performance and modern entertainment underlined TAT’s message: Thailand is not only a place of heritage, but also a dynamic cultural scene with current artistic energy.

Part of a premium tourism strategy

The Fukuoka festival fits into a wider TAT strategy to promote Thailand as a premium destination. By using gastronomic tourism, the agency wants to strengthen Thailand’s appeal among demanding travellers and reinforce an image built on cuisine, culture, wellbeing and memorable experiences.

In that sense, the Thai food festival was both a cultural event and a tourism pitch. It showed how a meal, a performance or a workshop can become a reason to plan a journey to Thailand at its source.
