Thailand’s 450-baht visitor fee still needs Cabinet review

Thailand’s proposed 450-baht tourism fee has ministerial support, but no final Cabinet decision or start date has been announced.

Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun has backed a proposal to charge foreign visitors 450 baht, but the fee has not been approved as a charge in force. Agencies still need to work out how it would be collected and spent before the government considers it.

The National Tourism Policy Committee has discussed the plan. Suphajee has asked officials to specify collection, disbursement and oversight procedures. Ministerial support moves the proposal forward; it does not tell travellers to pay an additional entry charge now.

What the proposal covers

An earlier government description set out a flat 450-baht rate for foreign visitors arriving by air, land or sea. The stated purposes include visitor safety and improvements to underfunded attractions. Those were proposed terms, not the final rules of an enacted scheme.

The latest reporting does not establish a start date, a final payment method or a list of projects that would receive funding. These details matter both to visitors calculating travel costs and to anyone assessing whether the revenue is spent as intended.

What visitors should do

As of 10 October 2026, the 450-baht figure remained a proposal. Travellers should wait for an approved measure and its published effective date before treating it as a requirement. It should not be confused with Thailand’s existing entry rules.
