Similan and Surin Islands reopen Oct 15, 2026. Learn about electronic tickets, opening dates, and planning tips for Thailand's Andaman coast.

Thailand's west coast has officially welcomed back visitors to its most iconic marine destinations. The Similan Islands reopened on October 15, 2026, following a five-month monsoon closure, marking the start of the new Andaman travel season.

Similan and Surin Welcome Back Visitors

The Similan Islands in Phang Nga Province reopened on October 15, 2026. More than 1,300 visitors arrived on the opening day to explore the granite boulders and white-sand beaches. The islands had been closed since May to allow the marine environment to recover from the monsoon season. The Surin Islands also reopened on the same date, offering access to the Moken village and pristine coral reefs.

Key Changes for Travelers

Travelers should note a significant change in entry procedures. Six marine national parks, including Similan, Surin, Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay, and Ko Lanta, have used electronic tickets since October 2025. Visitors must purchase tickets in advance and have their passports ready for entry. Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Le also welcomed visitors back on October 1, 2026, slightly earlier than the Similan Islands.

Planning Your Andaman Trip

The dry season is expected to settle by December, but October and early November can still bring rain. Boat operators may delay departures when waves are high. Travelers are advised to build spare days into their itineraries and book ferries and island accommodation early for the peak months of December and January. The Andaman coast offers unique experiences, from sea canoeing in Phang Nga Bay to diving the Similan and Richelieu Rock circuit.
