The Thailand flood holiday on September 28 and 29 covers Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan, following heavy rain and flooding.

The cabinet’s measure applies to four areas around the capital, not to the whole country. It follows heavy rain and standing floodwater that affected travel in parts of the region.

Which areas are covered

The Thailand flood holiday applies in Bangkok and the neighbouring provinces of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan. The dates are Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Residents and visitors should not assume that the arrangement applies elsewhere in Thailand.

The decision is a regional response to flooding and travel disruption. Its geographic limit matters for anyone whose plans cross provincial boundaries: the holiday designation is not a nationwide closure.

Online government services remain available

Government agencies are to continue providing public services through their online channels as usual. The announcement therefore distinguishes between the special holiday and access to digital government services.

That does not mean every in-person service or appointment will follow the same arrangement. Anyone who needs an office visit should check directly with the relevant agency before travelling, particularly while local conditions may affect journeys.

Other organisations set their own arrangements

The government asked state enterprises, financial institutions, private-sector organisations and hospitals to consider what is appropriate and necessary for their operations. The special holiday announcement does not, by itself, confirm that every bank, business or hospital will close.

For travellers and residents, the practical point is to verify both the status of a specific service and the route to reach it. Conditions can vary across the four named areas; the announcement does not provide a single travel or transport status for every neighbourhood.

A limited measure amid flooding

The two-day measure is intended to ease travel disruption and protect the public during flooding. It is a time-limited decision for September 28–29, rather than a permanent change to the public-holiday calendar.

People with plans in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani or Samut Prakan should confirm appointments and opening arrangements with the organisation concerned. Those travelling beyond the four areas should check the relevant local information rather than assume the special holiday applies there.
