The Thailand rain update for Sunday, September 27, brought a regional split: rainfall was easing in Bangkok and the East, while heavy downpours continued across the western Central Plains.
That change did not mean dry weather across the capital or the wider region. The forecast still allowed for continuing rain and isolated heavy showers in Bangkok and nearby provinces. The more persistent threat had shifted west, where some parts of the Central Plains faced very heavy rainfall.
Where the heaviest rain remained
The Thai Meteorological Department linked the conditions to a low-pressure area over the western Central Plains and a relatively strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The Sunday update described heavy rain in many western Central Plains areas, with very heavy rain in some locations.
Bangkok and the East had begun to see rainfall decline. That was a change in the forecast, not an all-clear: showers could continue, and isolated heavy rain remained possible. The Thailand rain update therefore pointed to different local conditions rather than a uniform end to the wet spell.
Flood-prone routes still need attention
Officials warned that heavy or accumulated rain could cause temporary flooding, especially in low-lying areas and on roads that flood easily. The warning matters most for people travelling through affected locations: a forecast of easing rain in Bangkok does not establish that every route is clear or that standing water has drained.
The advisory also urged small boats in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea to remain ashore until Monday, September 28. This marine warning applied to those areas and small vessels; it was not a nationwide closure of sea travel. The earlier Department advisory had also warned mariners to use caution around thunderstorms.
A gradual change, not a nationwide all-clear
The forecast indicated that rainfall across Thailand would decline from Monday through Friday. It still allowed for isolated heavy rain in western parts of the North and Central Plains as the active low-pressure area moved toward Myanmar. The expected easing therefore did not rule out local downpours.
For residents and visitors, the useful distinction is between the broad trend and the conditions at a particular place. Bangkok and the East were moving toward less rain, while the western Central Plains remained the focus of heavy falls. Low-lying roads and the designated sea areas still required caution under the latest warnings.
